Has someone ever done something to you that made you really mad?  Yes, we all have had this wonderful experience, I’m sure.  Esau was mad at Jacob for taking the blessing their father meant for him.  Yes, Jacob & his mom really pulled it off, didn’t they?  Well… it made Esau mad.  It made him so mad that he planned to kill Jacob as soon as their father passed away.

So Jacob got out of there.  Years later, he’s returning to his home country & he’s hoping that his brother Esau has forgiven him.  We usually focus on Jacob in this story, but I want to focus on Esau (not to take away from the wise efforts that Jacob made toward his brother prior to their re-uniting).

The bible doesn’t say exactly when Esau “let it go” & decided to not get even with his brother.  And as you read the story, it almost looks like Esau was coming to meet Jacob with vengeance in mind.  So who knows, it could have been at the last minute, just before their re-uniting.  Kind-of a scary thought for Jacob.

But it’s such a positive story because of Esau choosing to let it go.  So many times we want to hold on to the wrong that was done to us, and this will always end in a negative end.  It’s when we choose to ‘let go!’ that everyone wins in the end.
